Sama Randy Youth Write Contest at 10

Ten years ago, it was conceived as mere ideas. With more conviction, determination, and strategic
planning, we nurtured the Sama Randy Youth Write Contest and saw it grow from its inception in 2013
up to this point where it celebrates ten years of conscientisation and empowerment of Cameroonian
youths.

Every year, Better Breed Cameroon launches the Sama Randy Youth Write Contest under different
themes which undergraduates have to decode and write an essay on, standing a chance to win up to
100,000FCFA. Over the years, these themes have revolved around entrepreneurship, peace and security,
patriotism, and the overall growth of Cameroon and Cameroonians. This is an opportunity for youths to
share their unique perspectives on issues that affect them. For its 2025 edition, the contest requires
undergraduates to expand their critical thinking and creativity by writing on the theme “My vision 2035,
the Cameroon I Imagine”.

The impacts of the Sama Randy Youth Write Contest abound. Many previous winners have affirmed to
the significant positive mark that the contest has left on their lives. Second winner during the 7th
edition, Nchanji Faithful says “It has had a massive effect on me. My confidence blew up exponentially.
From there, I’ve gone to win other national competitions. Even the certificate of winning the competition has gotten me scholarships and other great opportunities. I don’t regret entering the competition and I would do it again if I had the chance”. With a focus on youth empowerment, we continue to boost the confidence of more youth through the contest.

“Participating in the contest gave me a rare opportunity to share my thoughts about what I think makes
up the beauty of being a Cameroonian, and how we contribute in building the country we want. That
same year it encouraged me to participate in two other competitions and I won. I also found out about Better Breed Cameroon and its mission through the SRYWC. Thereafter, I had the opportunity to apply and become one of the four BBCam Legacy Fellows, 2 years later” Umel Awountsa, second place winner 2022, recounts. This is indeed a testament to our endeavors in empowering responsive youths who take initiatives geared towards nation building.

We believe that the Sama Randy Youth Write Contest can equally have as much impact on you as it had
on Faithful and Umel. It all begins with ideas. As we nurtured and prone ideas that gave birth to this
contest,we believe that with determination and conviction, you can as well prone your ideas into a
winning essay.

We equally hope this write-up informs you to better mold your essay because as Jane Goodall states
“when young people are informed and empowered, and when they realize that what they do truly
makes a difference, they can indeed change the world “
