Kindly introduce yourself and tell us about your crochet journey.

My name is Chin Lamnso Nancy, founder of Nan’s crochet,a proudly Cameroonian brand based in Bamenda.I began my crochet journey as a hobby during my teenage years.when I started it,it was just a way of keeping me busy but as time went on,I felt in love with the art of creating beautiful and wearable pieces from yarn. What I started as a personal passion gradually evolved into a business and a way to empower others especially young girls with a skill they can monetize.

You’ve been recognized as the BBCam Youth of the Month your resilience as a toung Cameroonian. What drives you to do this work, and what impact do you hope to achieve?

What drives me to do this work is the belief that creativity can be a tool for self expression.Growing up, I saw so many young people with talent but no platform.my goal is to teach, inspire and create opportunities through crochet and hope to see a generation who are proud of their skill and confident in turning their passion into purpose.

Are you a student? If yes, how do you manage your time between school and passion? If No what does your daily routine entail?

I’m currently not a student.I start my day with a prayer and planning, holding one on one crochet classes, followed by clients orders, working on custom patterns. Everyday is different but I make sure it aligns with my vision.

What are some of the major obstacles you’ve faced, and how have you overcome them?

Some of my biggest challenges have been financial limitations and balancing multiple responsibilities.I overcome them through persistence, learning from my mistakes and most importantly, staying true to my purpose. The support from my clients keeps me going.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years,I see Nan’s crochet expanded into a full fledged fashion and skill development hub.I hope to train thousands of people within my country and why not across Africa, create my own designs just like what am putting on and have them featured on national and international platforms and by God’s grace, run a foundation that supports the underprivileged girls with creative skills.

To you, what does it mean to be a Better Breed?

To be a Better Breed means choosing purpose over popularity,it’s about serving your community and leading by example.A Better Breed should be innovative.
