BBCam Letter-Based Mentorship Program:The Power of Dreams and Passion

Dear Younger Me,

I often think about those early days of my life. They were beautiful days, filled with ambition and expectation. I dreamed of doing something meaningful and leaving a mark on the world. Deep inside me was a burning passion for journalism. I wanted to tell stories that mattered, speak for those whose voices were unheard, and use my words to inspire change. I imagined myself holding a microphone, writing powerful stories, and standing in newsrooms like CNN, BBC, or even CRTV, shining a light on issues that affect people’s lives.

This dream was not mine alone. My parents believed in me, and my teachers saw potential in me. They hoped I would become someone who used knowledge and communication to make society better. Looking back today, I sometimes wonder what my life would have been if I had fully followed that passion. There are moments when I miss the opportunities I did not take and the dreams I left behind.

Life has taught me that not every dream unfolds exactly as we plan. Sometimes, circumstances push us in different directions. Responsibilities arise, challenges appear, and reality demands decisions we never imagined making. I have learned that life is not only about where we end up but also about the lessons we gather along the journey.

If I could turn back the hands of time, there are things I would do differently. I would be more intentional about my career choices. I would seek guidance from mentors and career counsellors. I would ask more questions and explore my talents more deeply. I would not allow fear, confusion, or difficult circumstances to silence my dreams. I would work harder to create opportunities for myself and remain committed to the things I truly loved.

Dear younger me,

Your dreams are precious. Do not ignore your passions simply because the road seems difficult. Seek advice from people who have experience. Find mentors who can guide you. Learn as much as you can about your interests and make informed decisions about your future. Most importantly, do not allow temporary challenges to convince you that your dreams are impossible.

Life may not always go according to plan, but being intentional, persistent, and open to learning can make a great difference. The choices you make today can shape the person you become tomorrow. Chase your dreams with courage, prepare yourself through education and guidance, and never stop believing in your potential.

Even if life takes you down a different path, carry your passions with you. They may still find expression in unexpected ways. Regret often comes from opportunities not explored and dreams abandoned too soon.

So, dream boldly, seek guidance, work diligently, and remain true to the gifts that make you unique. The future belongs to those who dare to believe in their dreams and are willing to work for them.

Yours sincerely,
