On May 30, 2026, Better Breed Cameroon organized the first edition of The Corporate Runway: A Practical Guide from Campus to the World of Work in Bamenda, bringing together 40 graduates, young professionals, and working professionals for a practical learning experience focused on bridging the gap between education and employment. The initiative responded to a growing reality among young people: academic qualifications alone are no longer enough to guarantee career success.
Today’s world of work requires adaptability, digital competence, communication skills, personal branding, entrepreneurial thinking, and a commitment to continuous learning.Through engaging sessions led by experienced facilitators, participants gained practical tools to better position themselves for professional opportunities.Moving Beyond Qualifications: Building Career-Ready Professionals.
One of the key lessons from The Corporate Runway was the importance of understanding and communicating personal value.During the session on “Using Storytelling to Build Opportunities,” facilitated by Better Breed Cameroon’s Executive Director, Chi Margaret Edum, participants explored how their experiences can become powerful professional assets.

Many discovered that valuable skills gained through volunteering, leadership roles, community engagement, and personal projects were often missing from their CVs.The message was clear:Your CV may present your qualifications, but your story reveals your value.
The session on Job Placement in Cameroon, facilitated by Whitney Philis, further explored what it means to be employable. Participants reflected on professionalism, communication, customer service, and the importance of continuous growth in building successful careers.Building a Strong Digital and Professional Identity. As workplaces become increasingly digital, young professionals must also learn how to manage their online presence and develop relevant digital skills.

Facilitated by Nchanji Faithful, former winner of the Sama Randy Youth Write Contest, the personal branding session challenged participants to reflect on a critical question:What does someone discover when they search your name online? Participants learned how to build authentic personal brands, strengthen professional profiles, use digital platforms for networking, and create opportunities through visibility.

The digital skills session facilitated by Wobyeb Graphlain focused on essential workplace competencies, including computer literacy, professional email communication, online collaboration, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. The takeaway was simple: digital skills are no longer optional; they are essential for remaining relevant in the future of work.
The Corporate Runway also encouraged participants to explore entrepreneurship as a pathway for innovation and impact.During the entrepreneurship session facilitated by Birndze Bete, participants learned about identifying business opportunities, planning, financial management, accessing capital, and attracting customers.

A practical exercise challenged them to think differently about business creation. The key question was not:“How can I make money?”But rather:“What problem can I solve?” This shift in mindset highlighted entrepreneurship as more than income generation, but it being about creating solutions that respond to real needs.
Personal development was another key focus of The Corporate Runway. Facilitated by Jude Wonders, the session encouraged participants to confront fear, overcome self-doubt, and intentionally pursue growth. Through practical insights and personal reflections, participants were reminded that professional success begins with personal growth, and that every step outside their comfort zone brings them closer to the future they aspire to build.
